I thought I'd share this again in case any of the day crowd missed. My question: Why does Gawker hate pictures?
I have heard from Gawker Tech that, in order to improve mobile performance, pictures in posts will not show on the Oppo FP (don't know about any other FPs) unless that photo has been recommended/promoted. If the picture is big on the desktop, it will appear on the mobile FP. If it's small on the desktop, it won't appear on the mobile FP.
If you want to see this in action in the comfort of your home, open a new window on your desktop browser and make it very narrow. As it shrinks, it will magically become a mobile window. And the little pictures will disappear.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

So instead of streamlining their code or hiring a hot headed grad student to do it, they cripple functionality instead?
Fuck it, all Oppo mods you have a duty to promote every single picture regardless of what it is.
Or...I can just force desktop mode on my mobile browsers. That too.

I noticed that on my phone. Not thrilled. I do most of my posting from an ipad and I would imagine that Safari on phone or tablet will be the same.

I'm disappointed, too. I don't think they realize just how important the images are to getting clicks. Sometimes I'll click a picture instead of a headline because I recognize the picture as something I'm interested in. Check out this little discussion I had with Ernie about it.

How'd you get that spiffy checkmark? I want one!

You have one in my view! At least for Oppo, pics are hugely important. Dudes are visual. We spend most of our time talking about cars, tand they are visual and they are visual. Bonus I can't see what I'm typing and I don't see how I add a I true to my reply. .

Interesting. The font of your reply is wonky. Ernie said they are supposed to have replies and notifications straightened out for mobile tomorrow. We'll see.
Does the checkmark indicate people you are following?

I think that is what the check means.

That's not cool. I only ever OPPO from my phone. If this is the case, I may only OPPO in my car from now on. You get what I'm sayin?
